April 8, 1927 - December 18, 2019
MaryEllen was born April 8, 1927 to John and Weltha (Johnson) Schloemer in Prosser, Washington. She was their only child. She was raised in White Swan and they eventually settled in Yakima. When she was 17, she was proud to go to work as a welders helper in the shipyards of Seattle as WWII waged on.
When the war ended she met George Gabbard in 1945 in White Swan, Washington. They married in Sunnyside and remained until his passing. In 1953 they adopted their only child George Jr. which completed their little family.
Also in 1953, the family moved to Alaska to live and work in the logging communities until 1960. When they moved back to Seattle MaryEllen took a job at Boeing as an electrical specialist and worked there for many years. When her husband became ill she retired and stayed home and care for George Sr. in Yakima and remained there after his passing until 2014. She moved to Kuna, Idaho to be close to her son and grandchildren where she remained until her recent passing. MaryEllen was famous for her quilting and knitting. She loved making her special washcloths for her family and friends on their special occasions. This tradition will be missed.
MaryEllen was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her son George Gabbard Jr. and her grandchildren, Kelli (Leland) Thompson and Chad Gabbard, also her great-grandson Connor Thompson.
